Meet Our PeriodontistsYota Stathopoulou, DDS, DMD, MS, PhD![]() Dr. Stathopoulou holds a Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece and a Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. She received a certificate in Periodontics from the University of Louisville and completed a Master of Science and PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at the same institution. After working for several years in a multi-disciplinary specialty private practice in her native city of Athens, Dr. Stathopoulou relocated to Philadelphia in 2012 to assume a full-time faculty position at the University of Pennsylvania where she served as the Director of Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Periodontics, and as the Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs. In 2019, Dr. Stathopoulou was recruited by Oregon Health & Science University, where she is currently Associate Professor and Director of the Advanced Education Program in Periodontics. Dr. Stathopoulou has published in peer-reviewed journals, lectures nationally and internationally, and has been the recipient of several prestigious scholarships and awards. Her clinical research focuses on the non-surgical treatment of periodontitis and periimplantitis, and has been supported by industry and the National Institutes of Health; her basic science research focuses on host-bacterial interactions and their role in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease. Dr. Stathopoulou has trained hundreds of dental students and residents while maintaining an active clinical practice throughout her academic career. In 2020 she joined Fusion Dental Specialists in Happy Valley, sharing Dr. Barewal’s and Dr. Weesner’s vision for excellence. Dr. Stathopoulou is committed to providing evidence-based and patient-centered care, and aims to serve as a resource for the local dental community. Dr. Stathopoulou lives in West Linn with her husband, Kostas, and their very active preschooler, Eirene. As a family, they love hiking, skiing, and exploring the nature of the Pacific Northwest, while Yota and Kostas also enjoy visiting the wineries and farm-to-table restaurants of the Willamette Valley. Ernest Holden, DMD, MS![]() Dr. Holden earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2012, where he received Dean’s List honors for high performance on National Boards, and was awarded a Merit Scholarship. He went on to complete a 2 year General Practice Residency at Tufts, serving as Co-Chief Resident, where he supervised undergraduates and provided care for medically complex patients. Dr. Holden later practiced general dentistry in both public health and private settings before pursuing advanced periodontal training. He completed his residency in Periodontics and Master of Science in Periodontology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Dr. Holden is experienced in a wide range of periodontal procedures, including dental implant placement, bone regeneration, soft tissue grafting, crown lengthening, and guided bone regeneration. In addition to private practice, Dr. Holden enjoys teaching and is part-time faculty at OHSU School of Dentistry. He works with both predoctoral students and periodontal residents, sharing his expertise in the predoctoral clinic and graduate periodontal clinic. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Holden enjoys cooking, hiking, playing sports, and spending time with his family. He lives in Portland with his wife Marion, who is also a dentist, their energetic daughter Cora, and their baby son Matthew. Learn More: |
